Easy Tips and Tricks to safely remove Halloween Makeup

It’s finally Halloween and you get to wear the costume you’ve been preparing since January. The vibes are awesome, your makeup looks amazing and after a whole night of partying it’s time to go home and rest. But that’s where the true scary night starts, because now you will have to remove all the paint, silicones, and heavy makeup.

It’s all fun and giggles when you’re getting ready but removing all your hard work is another story when it’s 3 AM and all you want to do is sleep for the next 24 hours. Heavy makeup if not removed properly can clog your pores and encourage breakouts, which is definitely not what we want after a night of spooky fun with our friends.

So how do we do it? How do we remove all the makeup without damaging our skin? We compiled a list of the best tips -and tricks- to safely remove Halloween makeup so the only thing you fear this Holiday is not having enough fun!

1. Prep your skin:

Even if you’re doing simple makeup, it’s always a good idea to prep your skin with lightweight products that will clean and hydrate your skin. This will give you the perfect base for all your makeup products  and will make sure your makeup looks flawless and lasts all night.

    2. Bye bye special effects:

    Johnsons baby oil

Special effects makeup made using latex, face paint, jewels or glitter should be the first thing you tackle. Unfortunately, your usual makeup remover or micellar water alone won’t do the trick. Instead, you will need an oil based clean to easily melt away all the glue and paint. Baby oil and vaseline are between the cheapest options but for more delicate products such as liquid collodion or spirit gum, make sure you also get an appropriate remover as these can permanently damage your skin if you don’t remove them properly.

      3. Lint roller for glitter

Removing glitter off your body can be very annoying so a tip is to use a lint roller that will pick all the glitter for you. Pair this with the oil based cleanser and we can assure that all the glitter will eventually come off.

        4. Be gentle on the lips and eye area

Any spooky Halloween makeup involves going a little crazy on the eye makeup or doing some bold lips. To remove makeup around these areas, oil cleansers will be your best friends but whatever you do, Do not rub too hard!

The areas around your eyes and mouth are the most sensible and you need to be gentle to avoid any irritation. It is also a good moment to remind you to not use any special effects products in these areas if you can avoid it. We usually use Halloween makeup for hours and considering we are not special effects artists, it is best to avoid any potential irritation.

          5. Double Cleanse your skin

We can’t stress enough the importance of double cleansing. After using the oil based cleanser to remove most of your makeup, follow up by using a water based cleanser. This will ensure that any additional makeup and dirt is completely removed.

Additionally, oil cleansers can potentially clog your pores and cause pimples if not removed entirely. Therefore, it is always best to use a water based cleanser afterwards to make sure everything is removed.

            6. Micellar water for everything else

Even after double cleansing, you might notice you still have some leftover makeup. For these situations, use micellar water and a cotton pad to remove anything that didn’t come off with the other products.

The most important part is to be gentle when swiping the cotton pad, I know you’re in a rush to go to sleep but being rough with your skin will only cause greater damage later on.

Follow with your usual skincare but avoid acids or exfoliating your skin if you feel it’s too sensitive. However, make sure you restore all the moisture with gentle hydrating products. Now you know how to remove all the makeup, if you made it to the end of this article, tell us in the comments what are your plans this Halloween?
